Do you offer mental health therapy?

RIA does not offer mental health therapy, but we can help you know what to look for in an adoption competent therapist and provide you with the tools to find one. Veronica is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Internwith 15 years of experience in the mental health field.

Why should I talk to an adoptee?

Adoptees are the leading experts in adoption. No one can tell you firsthand how it feels to be adopted other than someone who has lived that experience.

Do you give legal advice?

RIA is not qualified to give legal advice.

Do you diagnosis?

RIA does not diagnosis. A diagnosis can only be obtained from a licensed mental health professional or a physician.

I have no connection to adoption, but I still
want to learn. Can I schedule an appointment?

Absolutely! RIA strives to educate anyone willing to learn about the complexities of adoption. This might include educators,
mental health professionals, social workers,
or researchers.

What does it mean to be rooted in adoption?

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines being rooted formed, made, or developed by using (something) as a basis. Every adoptee has a story. Some are filled with intense joy and resiliency, while others may be consumed by abuse and pain. No matter what our stories our they are a part of each one of us. Like roots, it is those triumphs and struggles have developed us into who we are today.

Is my adoptive child traumatized?

Many professionals believe adoption trauma is not from the adoption itself, but rather the separation of the first mother during infancy. With that said, all adoptive children have experienced trauma.

Can you help me locate a lost relative?

We do not offer investigative services, but we can provide you with various resources to begin a search in addition to sharing our own personal experiences.

Can I reschedule my consultation?

Rescheduling must be done 24 hours prior to your appointment at no additional charge.
